ACOUSTICAL DESIGN OF ELBPHILHARMONIE - Proceedings of the Institute of Acoustics

The design keyword of the Grosser Saal is "intimacy". From both the architectural (that is, visual) perspective and the acoustical perspective, intimacy was the aim. Because of the size of Grosser Saal, the question of how to make the audience feel “not distant” from the performers became the most important theme of design work. When Nagata Acoustics joined the project design team, the project had already decided that the basic shape of Grosser Saal would not be the “shoebox” configuration, but instead would use the so-called “vineyard” configuration to seat the audience as close to the stage as possible." - K Oguchi ,Marc Quiquerez,Y Toyota, Nagata Acoustics - https://lnkd.in/dv8_vcbv

The three halls and the eight-floor high foyer were created as computer models in the EASE software program. In this context, the acoustic data was collected from the acoustic consultant Nagata Acoustics Ass., when available, or was created by WSDG (Walters-Storyk Design Group) through material data collected from the architect. Digitally controlled line arrays were employed in two of the halls of the Elbphilharmonie. In the larger hall a lowerable central cluster consisting of 6 CAL64 systems from Meyer Sound. was used, as well as two more CAL32 systems for the sound reinforcement of the front rows area are installed. The Elbphilharmonie was seeking the same sonic excellence along with the elegance of a small footprint. After an initial planning phase, N&M Neumann & Müller Veranstaltungstechnik and Kling & Freitag GmbH collaborated on setting up a K&F VIDA demonstration at the Concert Hall.

The demo showcased live system control via the K&F VIDA App, low latency reproduction and the ability to recall preset configurations to accommodate the wide range of applications at the Elbphilharmonie.

The rest is history. In July 2018, the conversion to the new cluster took place, incorporating 18 K&F VIDA L and K&F VIDA C into the dome of the roof and an additional two K&F VIDA L/C-sets on either side of the stage." - https://lnkd.in/dVDnp9ZM
