"Bar do Salomão is one of Belo Horizonte's traditional choro haunts, with rodas on Mondays and Thursdays.
The venue opened as a warehouse in 1945 by the Syrian couple Jorge Abdalla and Chamesse Dauch, grandparents of the current owner. After Jorge Abdalla's death, one of his sons, Salomão Jorge, took over the business with his mother and, in 1953, decided to transform the warehouse into a bar. An Atlético Mineiro fan, he eventually incorporated soccer as one of the bar's themes, making it a meeting point for Atlético fans on match days.
The choro rodas began in 2009 with Emanoel Madeira (mandolin), a native of Rondônia, along with the group Choropronóbis, composed of Tiago Balbino (mandolin), Rodrigo Rift (cavaquinho), Marcelo Hissa (7-string guitar), and Luiz Lobo (tambourine).
The lineups have been highly rotated. Initially, the musicians played only on Thursdays and without pay, with only a guaranteed drink. Over time, the rodas grew in attendance and began taking place on Mondays and Thursdays. Around 11 to 12 regular musicians began receiving a fixed salary from the bar, in addition to drinks.
In 2010, Pedro Alvarez (flute) began playing with Wagner 7 Cordas, Madeira (mandolin), Nickson do Cavaco, and Ronaldo Pereira (tambourine). Starting in 2012, the Canela de Ema group, composed of, in addition to Pedro Alvarez, Artur Pádua (mandolin), Daniel Nogueira (cavaquinho), Luiza Falcão (tambourine), and André Amaral (7-string guitar), became part of the regular musicians. The Canela de Ema group disbanded in 2013. Pedro Alvarez, who continued playing at the venue until 2018, reported that there were many different lineups.
Mozart Secundino de Oliveira, a renowned guitarist in the city's choro history, played at Bar do Salomão for several years, approximately between 2012 and 2015, the year of his death. Another notable performer was cavaquinho player Pablo Dias. The roda was always open to participation from other musicians.
In mid-2018, approximately seven months before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, due to political disagreements, the musicians who formed the second and fifth rodas were reorganized. The rodas subsequently ceased, and the prospect of a return in 2021 remains uncertain." - https://acervosvirtuais.ufpel.edu.br/choropatrimonio/rodas-e-locais-de-performance/bar-do-salomao/
