Inside the Große Sendesaal in Haus des Rundfunks - RBB - Berlin - Germany - Walking Tour

#concerthall #berlin #walkingtour Der Große Sendesaal im Haus des Rundfunks, Berlin, Germany 🇩🇪 "Leonard Bernstein, the Berlin Philharmonic, and Ingo Metzmacher with the German Symphony Orchestra have performed here, as have Gianna Nannini, Adam Green, and Norah Jones: Since 1931, the legendary Great Broadcasting Hall of the Haus des Rundfunks (Broadcasting House) has hosted top-class recordings and outstanding concert events. This makes the 1,300-square-meter radio studio not only one of the largest in Europe, but also the oldest of its kind. The rbb (Berlin-Brandenburg Broadcasting) and its radio programs use the Great Broadcasting Hall for a wide variety of music productions. In addition, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (RSB) regularly rehearses here. This is part of the rbb's cultural commitment as a shareholder of Berliner roc GmbH. The hall boasts a fascinating interior design dating from 1959. Its theatrical layout, with its rising parquet floor and widened gallery opposite a terraced stage, meets the acoustic requirements of both a radio studio and a concert hall. Box-shaped scattering and absorption bodies on the elm-veneered hall walls, as well as reflector sails suspended above the stage, achieve a diffuse reverberation." - https://lnkd.in/dQu9vZvs "The House of Broadcasting in Berlin-Charlottenburg is one of the oldest broadcasting buildings in Europe. Its striking facade is a prominent feature of Masurenallee. Architect Hans Poelzig's design for the broadcasting building won a competition against two other entries, and in 1929 he was commissioned to construct the new broadcasting facility. When it opened in January 1931, it was clear that the building made a distinctive architectural statement. Its unusual triangular shape is derived from its function. Poelzig placed the three large broadcasting studios in the center and shielded them from street noise with surrounding office buildings. This also created a total of four courtyards." - https://lnkd.in/dqKeV6tc "Large Broadcasting Hall The Great Broadcasting Hall is the heart of the building. Its dimensions are: 47.5 m long, 25.3 to 33.8 m wide and up to 12 m high. ... A special feature was the ability to create "different room acoustics depending on the nature of the performance" by means of "rotating panels, which run the entire height of the wall at a width of 1 m." Behind a "large opening in the fourth, shorter end wall, [a space was] provided for an organ to be installed later." This organ, built by Friedrich Weigle, was already under construction at that time.
