Tonmeistertagung 2025 - Connecting Audio Night - Mario Schönhofer (Ströme) - Synthesizer

#tmt33 #Tonmeistertagung #synthesizer "The get-together evenings at the Tonmeistertagung have been a tradition for many years. This year as well, the VDT invites you to a special evening event, the Connecting Audio Night, where exhibitors, tmt33 visitors and young professionals can intensively “connect” and exchange ideas. Dr. Thompson's Seifenfabrik provides the setting for 400 partygoers. Tickets are in high demand – if you want to attend, be sure to buy your ticket quickly in the ticket shop! By the way, there are also sponsorship packages available that not only include a ticket allocation, but also help us financially to make this party happen. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the VDT and the 33rd Tonmeistertagung. What better reason to celebrate? The Connecting Audio Night is the perfect place to do so. In addition to a few short, festive words, there will be good food and drink, lots of interesting people, and great music. As with the legendary VDT party at tmt31, where young and old danced to live electronic music, we have once again invited Mario Schönhofer (Ströme) to provide the musical entertainment." - https://tonmeistertagung.com/en/program/connecting-audio-night/ --- 📍 Location: https://guitars4rl-map.blogspot.com/ 🔗 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-sound-travels/ Enjoyed the video?

- https://fcs.mg.gov.br/evento/joao-bosco-boca-cheia-de-frutas/ --- 📍 Location: https://guitars4rl-map.blogspot.com/ 🔗 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-sound-travels/ Enjoyed the video? Birdland Jazz Club, New York City - Wednesday Night jazz: Frank Vignola’s Guitar Night

Birdland Jazz Club, New York City - Wednesday Night jazz: Frank Vignola’s Guitar Night in the Theater + Special Guest Henry Acker "BIRDLAND HISTORY Ever since most of Chicago’s top musicians moved to New York in the mid-to-late 1920s, New York City has been the Jazz Mecca. Nearly every major jazz style of the past seventy years has been initiated in the Big Apple. It was Charlie Parker, familiarly known to his fans and fellow musicians as “Bird,” a contraction of Yardbird, his formal nickname, who was the dynamic creative personality and genius of the alto saxophone who served as the inspiration for Birdland. The Early Days of Jazz in NYC When the original Birdland opened in December of 1949, Charlie Parker was the headliner and the club was located on Broadway, a block west of the 52nd Street scene, which was a hotbed of jazz in the 1930s and 40s. Miraculously, just as the scene on 52nd Street caved in, Birdland was born and quickly came to prominence. For the next fifteen years, the club’s survival formula was built upon memorable double and triple bills, commencing at 9 p.m. and sometimes lasting ’til dawn. In addition to Bird, many jazz legends were regulars at the club. Count Basie and his smokin’ big band made Birdland their New York headquarters, eventually recording George Shearing’s “Lullaby of Birdland” live at the club. John Coltrane’s classic Quartet regularly appeared at the club in the early 1960s, recording “Live at Birdland.” And the famous DJ, Symphony Sid Torin made a name for himself broadcasting live from the club to radio listeners up and down the eastern seaboard. ... Birdland’s booking history reads like a who’s who of jazz: Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bud Powell, Stan Getz, Lester Young, Erroll Garner, and many, many others. Considering the excitement that Birdland generated on a daily basis, it’s no surprise that the club attracted its share of celebrities. Regulars to the nightly festivities included such household names as Gary Cooper, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Joe Louis, Marlene Dietrich, Ava Gardner, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Sugar Ray Robinson. ... But as a new popular music, Rock & Roll emerged, Birdland’s fortunes declined in the 60’s and its doors were closed on Broadway and 52nd in 1965. After many 5 am nights, the club needed to take a nap. ... Now, half a century later, the Birdland banner has been reborn in midtown and called, “close to perfection for serious fans and musicians,” by The New York Times. After a decade of neighborhood success on the Upper West Side, John decided to move the club back to Midtown. The new Birdland offers top-flight jazz in a world class setting, good sight lines and acoustics, elbow room, and an award-winning menu featuring American cuisine with a Cajun flair. Modern Jazz in Manhattan Since the reemergence of the club, midtown Manhattan has been treated to some of the best jazz on the planet, including memorable sets by such musicians as Oscar Peterson, Pat Metheny, Diana Krall, Roy Haynes, Michel Legrand, Dave Brubeck, Pat Martino, Tony Williams, Hank Jones, Michel Petrucciani, Maynard Ferguson, Freddie Hubbard, Marian McPartland, John Pizzarelli, Kurt Elling, Joe Lovano, McCoy Tyner, Michael Brecker, Clark Terry, Ron Carter, Jon Hendricks, George Shearing, James Moody, Yellowjackets, John Scofield, Phoebe Snow, Dave Holland, and Tito Puente, as well as the big bands of Chico O’Farrill, Duke Ellington, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and Maria Schneider. In addition, Birdland is home to such popular musical events as the Umbria Jazz Festival in NYC and the Annual Django Reinhardt NY Festival. Over the past two decades, Birdland has expanded it’s musical outreach with the Broadway at Birdland concert series, shining a spotlight on Chita Rivera, Liza Minnelli, Michael Feinstein, Betty Buckley, Christine Ebersole, Barbara Cook, Ariana DeBose, Glenn Close, Melissa Manchester, and thousands more. Jim Caruso’s Cast Party, our weekly impromptu variety show, has helped make Birdland the late-night place to rub shoulders with show folk every Monday since 2004. And the 2018 addition of the state-of-the-art Birdland Theater has made it possible to include Broadway superstars, burlesque, comedy, cabaret divas, jazz legends and the most buzzed-about up-and-comers to our schedule. Since 1949, Birdland has established itself as an essential part of New York City culture and musical history." - https://birdlandjazz.com/history/ "It’s the best jazz guitar lover’s show in the world, celebrating all facets of the guitar in jazz. Frank Vignola’s virtuosity has made him the guitarist of choice for many of the world’s top musicians, including Ringo Starr, Madonna, Donald Fagen, Tommy Emmanuel, the Boston and New York Pops, and more.." - https://birdlandjazz.com/event/frank-vignolas-guitar-night-in-the-theater-6/ #jazz #newyork #jazzclub

Deep-learning based prediction of Energy Decay Curves and Room Impulse Response reconstruction

#roomimpulseresponse #acoustics #signalprocessing Deep-learning based prediction of Energy Decay Curves (EDCs) and Room Impulse Response (RIR) reconstruction - Dr. Imran Muhammad 🔊 New Series Announcement | Audio Technology, Acoustics & Music Research The BRICS+ Audio, Acoustics & Music Tech Group, in cooperation with The Sound Travels YouTube channel, is launching a new video series dedicated to showcasing research in audio technology, acoustics, and music technology. This initiative aims to amplify the voices of scientists, engineers, and researchers; particularly from BRICS+ countries and the wider Global South, including Africa, Latin America, and Asia; whose work in sound, audio, and music-related technologies is shaping innovation but remains underrepresented in global platforms. 🎧 Focus areas include (but are not limited to): • Audio signal processing • Architectural and environmental acoustics • Music technology and digital instruments • Psychoacoustics and perception • Sound studies and emerging audio technologies 🎥 What the series offers: • Short, accessible presentations of ongoing or completed research • A platform to share ideas with a global, interdisciplinary audience • Visibility for research addressing local and global sonic challenges Researchers at all career stages are welcome. If you are interested in participating;or know someone whose work should be featured; we invite you to get in touch: leave a comment or DM us. Let’s connect sound, science, and innovation across the Global South and beyond. --- Abstract: This work proposes a neural network framework for efficient room impulse response (RIR) prediction by estimating energy decay curves (EDCs) from room geometry, material absorption, and source–receiver positions, followed by RIR reconstruction via reverse-differentiation. Trained on large-scale simulated datasets with realistic acoustic conditions, the method achieves high accuracy in objective metrics and shows no perceptual differences from reference RIRs in MUSHRA listening tests. The results demonstrate a fast, accurate, and perceptually reliable alternative to conventional room acoustic simulation methods for immersive audio applications. Inside the Estates Theatre with Backstage Access, Prague, Czech Republic - Stavovské Divadlo

"This magnificent theatre building from 1783 was built in the classical style and is still preserved in nearly original condition. The theatre’s history is inseparable from the musical talent of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart — in particular with the world premiere of his opera Don Giovanni, which is still included in the repertoire. The Estates Theatre is part of the National Theatre, and is the scene for drama, opera and ballet." - https://lnkd.in/dXCTwJbp "Estates Theatre, New Sound System At the Estates Theater, we designed and later installed new power sound systems, including the cable distribution and cable infrastructure. - We replaced the original static sound system placed in the boxes with movable loudspeakers suspended on winding point directly in the stage portal. As a result, the user has greater variability for the needs of individual performances. - We designed the sound system so that its installation is as sensitive as possible to the interior of the theater. - The design was based on simulations on a 3D acoustic model and we chose the LCR configuration supplemented with a subbass loudspeaker for even coverage of the auditorium with the acoustic signal. - All of the elements used were custom made by a manufacturer so that their color exactly matched the color of the stage canopy. " - AVT Group a.s. , https://lnkd.in/dCNqKNe4 "The building was realized in a Classicist style according to a project of architect Antonín Haffenecker, and together with the theatre in Leoven in Styria it is the only building in Europe preserved in nearly original state. The main front with a pair of pillars and high, half-round vaulted windows were probably realized in French Classicism. ... Modern reconstruction took place in the years 1973—1974, and the last general reconstruction in 1983—1991 according to a project of architect Ivan Skála and Svatopluk Zeman. The original foundations of the building were reinforced, the enclosure walls were strengthened, the paintings on the auditorium and forestage ceilings were restored; the balcony parapets revealed surprising decorations made of paper-mache, used probably due to its light weight, as the auditorium’s enclosure walls are mostly made of wood and also the dome supporting the ceiling is made of wood. It was recommended not to replace any materials in order to preserve the excellent acoustics. A copy of the original chandelier from 1874 was made and installed, which was partially powered by gas. There are 148 light bulbs on the new chandelier, which weighs approx. 800 kg. After the reconstruction, there are 659 seating places and 20—40 standing places available in the Estates Theatre." - https://lnkd.in/dXCTwJbp hashtag#acoustics hashtag#architecture hashtag#soundsystem hashtag#audio hashtag#proaudio hashtag#audioengineering hashtag#signalprocessing hashtag#immersiveaudio hashtag#spatialaudio hashtag#sounddesign --- 📍 Location: https://guitars4rl-map.blogspot.com/ 🔗 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-sound-travels/ Enjoyed the video? Sepultura - Paulo Xisto's Bar in Amsterdam - BR020

From 24oranges.nl "Bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr of world famous Brazilian metal band Sepultura has opened a bar in Amsterdam called BR020 (BR for Brazil and 020 for Amsterdam’s landline city code). According to his bar staff, Paulo had always wanted to own a bar in Amsterdam even though he doesn’t live there. The bar staff play vinyl records, so you can ask to hear something and even pick from the wall. My party went for some Motörhead, AC/DC and Pink Floyd. Sepultura is finishing off a tour next week and the entire band is scheduled to attend the private opening of the bar although BR020 has been open for business since January. They serve one type of beer as their regular beer, a lesser known choice in Amsterdam purely because another beer from the same distributor is the beer the band has on their rider: Czech beer Pilsner Urquell. BR020 also has a small stage that I’m sure will be put to good use soon enough. They also have a very nice collection of signed cymbals on the wall." - https://www.24oranges.nl/2018/03/14/sepulturas-bassist-opens-rock-bar-in-amsterdam/ From rawMusicTv.com "The cosy Sepultura Metal Bar covered in vinyl in Amsterdam If you know anything about the Dutch city of Amsterdam, you’ll know it’s famous for canal’s, coffee shops, the red light district, and weed. Well, that’s probably the stereotypical view many have come to envision in their minds, however, Amsterdam has so much to offer for the average tourist it can actually be quite overwhelming to take in. Amsterdam is home to the famous Anne Frank house, Van Gogh Museum, and vibrant flower markets. The first thing we were greeted by in this great city was the architecture. Incredibly high, almost gothic style buildings in parts made you feel quite insignificant, but also in awe of your surroundings. It’s always satisfying to feel lost in your environment unknowing of what you may be about to discover beyond the next corner. After obligatory searching for the nearest power points in our hotel rooms to charge our phones, we decided to search for local bars in the area, and live music, on the off chance we might get to experience how the Dutch headbang. We were not disappointed in the slightest. Within a few minutes we’d set our sites on at least 5 different bars we wanted to check out, and two nights of live music. One of the most intriguing though was BR020. BR020 was actually opened by Paulo Xisto. Bass player from legendary Brazilian metal band Sepultura. The name was confusing at first but we then discovered that it was pretty simple. BR stood for Brazil, and 020 was part of the zip code for the location of the bar. Simple, but effective. We really didn’t know what to expect. From checking out photos on social media, it seemed like quite a small bar with not a hint of metal in sight. How wrong we were. Upon entering the rustic looking hipster joint, we were met with an entire wall full of original vinyl pressings of some of the biggest metal bands and albums on the planet. Not only could you hypnotically fixate your eyes on the glorious covers of these records, but you could also request to have any one of them played! The bar also features wall hangings of a very unique kind. Bass guitars, which we have to assume belong to the man himself, Paulo Xisto. Cymbals also litter the venue walls, and one wall is made entirely of old PA speakers. BR020 has managed to seamlessly integrate the modern feel of an authentic independent cafe that serves killer beer and tasty food, with the mystic of Metal music. You’re very aware that you’re sat in a seemingly “normal looking” cafe that is owned by a musical legend. The vinyl wall gets changed every single month with a fresh batch of new albums for people to request as they drink and dine their night away. It’s also quite strange to see such a mix of people from office workers that are grabbing a beer after work, and metalheads covered in tattoos stamping their feet to Anthrax, but it works really well. BR020 was without a doubt one of the most unique experiences we’ve encountered on our travels around Europe. Where else can you listen to an original pressing of Anthrax - Among The Living, devour a tasty vegan burger, and enjoy some super delicious beer whilst being surrounded by Bass guitars owned by Sepultura? Don’t worry, they serve “normal” food as well. Also, shout out to the staff who were super friendly, and the chef who made a seriously great meal for us." - https://www.rawmusictv.com/culture/2018/The-cosy-Sepultura-Metal-Bar-covered-in-vinyl-in-Amsterdam #sepultura #amsterdam #metal

The voices of Amália, Alfredo Marceneiro, Berta Cardoso, Lucília do Carmo, Mariana Silva, Celeste Rodrigues, and so many others, echoed between its four walls. Parreirinha de Alfama preserves the tradition of Fado in the familial and informal environment that Fado seeks. In 2014 the great responsibility of preserving Parreirinha de Alfama was passed on to musicians Paulo Valentim and Bruno Costa, and they have run and directed it ever since. ... Parreirinha de Alfama grew as a great restaurant and Fado house due to the work of its founder, Argentina Santos. She commanded every element of the kitchen, from purchasing to preparing the food. Currently, Chef Jaqueline Silva and her assistant, Aicha Elhayany, act as the gatekeepers of a tradition of intense flavors and food with soul. " - https://www.parreirinhadealfama.com/index_eng.html "Operating for over 60 years, this is one of Lisbon's most esteemed fado houses. A firm favourite with locals, many of whom grew up with the redoubtable Argentina Santos (1924-2019), the fadista who owned and operated the restaurant from the 1950s until 2014 when musicians Paulo Valentim and Bruno Costa took over, Parreirinha de Alfama attracts an International clientele. The venue is cosy and intimate and the atmosphere very authentic. The rustic interior design has changed little over the years, and the beautiful azulejos (tiles) decorating the walls still gleam brightly. Singers include Maria Amelia Proenca, Joana Viega, and Luis Matos, who regale customers in a manner senhora Santos would have been proud of. The menu, by the way, celebrates traditional Portuguese fare." - https://www.10best.com/destinations/portugal/lisbon/alfama-graca/nightlife/parreirinha-de-alfama/ #lisbon #portugal #fado

The music, of course, takes centre stage. In the Grand Hall, this assumes a double meaning: the terraced rows of seats rise up high around the stage in a circle. This creates an extraordinary sense of proximity to the musical action, especially since Yasuhisa Toyota’s acoustics make every note ring out as clear as crystal. As you make your way around the building, there are amazing views to discover at every turn. This is because the Elbphilharmonie – designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron – was built right in the middle of the river Elbe. A shimmering wave of glass on a solid brick warehouse from the 1960s, and between them a publicly accessible viewing platform that functions as a meeting place and launch pad for discovering the rest of the building: not only the Grand Hall and the Recital Hall, but also the hotel, restaurant and souvenir shop. The special materials used in the interior design invite you to touch and feel them, especially the acoustic wall panelling in the Grand Hall and the Recital Hall. And hands-on experience is also provided in the Elbphilharmonie »World of Instruments« in the Kaistudios, where musical instruments from around the world await to be played and discovered." #elbphilharmonie #hamburg #reeperbahnfestival

Inside the Antonín Dvořák Museum in Prague - Czech Republic

#dvořák #prague #czech "Since 1932, The Antonín Dvořák Museum in Prague has been housed in a Baroque villa designed by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer. Its permanent exhibition centres on Dvořák’s life and work, the museum also organises discussions and concerts. The museum contains a unique collection of the maestro’s autograph scores, representing almost eighty percent of the composer’s surviving manuscripts. " - https://www.antonin-dvorak.cz/en/antonin-dvorak-museums/ "Villa America – Museum of Antonín Dvořák The summer house was built for Jan Václav Count Michna of Vacínov, according to plans elaborated by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer, and this one-storied Baroque object is considered to be his first work in Prague after studying European architecture for ten years. The building was completed before 1720. It is a charming house with mansard roof and plastically shaped front. Towards the street, the summer house has two added ground-floor pavilions. Approximately 10 years later, sculptural decorations by Matyáš Bernard Braun were installed in the garden. Two sandstone sculptural groups represent the seasons of the year, Spring and Winter and Summer and Autumn; among other sculptures, there are figures of satyrs and two stone vases. The place used to be called At the Dwarves’ due to the decorations at the entrance. In 1729, the summer house was purchased by Karel Josef Count Desfours, and the owners changed several times after that — in the 19th century, the house was owned by Josef Veith and at that time it was used as a gathering place for educated groups of people. In 1826, a garden restaurant named America was opened here, with mostly German clientele. In 1843, the dilapidating building with the extensive garden was purchased by the city of Prague; it first established cattle market here, and later on sold the premises out for housing development. The object was restored by arch. Antonín Baum in 1884, and then again in 1911, when the little yard in front of the summer house was enclosed by a cast—iron grille. The grille is a copy of the original Baroque grille, which was sold to Dresden after 1884. In the beginning of the 20th century, it was the seat of the girls’ grammar school Minerva and an institute for the poor. In the early 1930s, an Association for building a monument to A. Dvořák was founded, later on renamed to the Antonín Dvořák Association, the members of which gathered remembrances of the famous composer with the aim of building a dignified monument for him. In 1932, the first exposition about the composer’s life and work was opened in the summer house. In 1956, the museum got into the administration of the Museum of Czech Literature, and since 1976 it has been included in the Museum of Music, which belongs to the National Museum. In 1991 (to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Dvořák’s birth), a new exposition was created. The summer house was adapted to suit the needs of a museum in the years 1953—55 by ing. Feigl. The main area of the entire building is in the great hall on the first floor. Its walls and vault are covered with frescoes by Jan Ferdinand Schor (Apollo, Archimedes’ Death, Apelles, Orpheus, Builder of the Roman Colosseum). The frescoes were restored by J. Heřman in 1894; the paintings were restored in the years 1956—57 by academic painter Bohumil Číla. Actress Růžena Nasková was born in one of the ground-floor pavilions. The object was restored in 1977." - https://prague.eu/en/objevujte/national-museum-antonin-dvorak-museum-muzeum-antonina-dvoraka/ --- 📍 Location: https://guitars4rl-map.blogspot.com/ 🔗 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-sound-travels/ Enjoyed the video? In only two years since the band’s inception, they boast a host of local residencies on the highly competitive New Orleans music scene. The band consists of Jon Roniger (singer/songwriter, guitar), Brendan Michael Bull (drums, vocal), Evan Paydon (bass), Russell Ramirez (trombone, vocal), and Jon Bauer (trumpet, vocal). For 200+ shows a year, Jon Roniger and The Good For Nothin’ Band tour nationally and internationally. "Maniac World", their first LP garnered rave reviews. "New Orleans based five piece The Good for Nothin’ Band practically crackle with chops on each cut." (Lydia Hillenburg, Vents Magazine). "There’s something to satisfy every sensibility. This is an outfit with a boundless future." (Michael Saulman, Gashouse Radio). Their sophomore effort "Second Shot" is due out in November 2017 and already has local festivals, venues, press and listeners begging for a taste. PRESS "Jon Rongier and his cohorts have fused often surprisingly poetic and image-filled lyrics with the melodic and highly stylized textures of Dixieland jazz and Delta blues. While it may sound effortless, the band practically crackles with chops on each cut.” — Lydia Hillenburg, Vents Magazine (Oct 14, 2016) "Everything about this unit is steeped in the history and environs of the Crescent City with a roar of tradition, conviction, and an unquenchable thirst for new wine in old bottles. There’s something to satisfy every sensibility. This is an outfit with a boundless future.” — Michael Saulman, Gashouse Radio (Oct 14, 2016) "There’s an original voice at work here, sly and sophisticated without being too self-conscious. If you want a date-night cocktail of real NOLA flavors, fizzy and giddy enough to seduce whomever you’re giving the side eye to, spin them around to this. It deftly sidesteps the hard sell.” — Robert Fontenot, Offbeat Magazine "One of the band’s most important ingredients is a sense of humor, but they never play the material or the genre as a whole for laughs. Instead, the band’s songwriting humor relies on discovering the absurdity in life rather than pursuing gimmickry and novelty.” — Lance Wright, Indiemunity (Oct 14, 2016) "Jon Roniger and The Good For Nothin' Band's "Maniac World" strikes notes of the familiar, but overall, it’s quite unlike anything you’ll hear. It's an impressive debut that sets the band up nicely for the future and establishes a very flexible musical template that shows no limits about where they can take it." - https://www.livejazz.dk/concerts/jon-roninger-and-the-good-for-nothing-band--72235

Vesperata in Diamantina, Real Life Immersive Experience, O que é? O que é? Gonzaguinha. Brazil

#vesperata #brazil #immersiveaudio Song: O que é? O que é? - Gonzaguinha "One of the most traditional and authentic events in Minas Gerais Vesperata has its origins in the traditional musical practices of Diamantina in the 19th century. When in the period of vespers, musicians performed on the balconies of the mansions to play for people walking in the streets. And what are vespers? Vespers is part of the Liturgy of the Hours, which is celebrated in the afternoon, between 3 pm and 6 pm. Cultural Heritage of Minas Gerais Recognized as an important event of tourism and culture in Brazil, Vesperata was awarded in 2010 by the Ministry of Tourism with the Roteiros do Brasil Trophy, for promoting Cultural Sustainability in the Municipality. With a repertoire full of good music and different styles, Vesperata is recognized as Cultural Heritage of Minas Gerais. In Diamantina, you will have the opportunity to watch one of the most beautiful musical shows of the local culture: The Vesperata that seems, at first glance, to be a serenade in reverse. Considered a “serenade in reverse” due to the fact that the musicians position themselves at the windows and play for the public on Rua da Quitanda, which is crowded with tables around the conducting maestros. Each presentation brings together more than a thousand people. The famous Vesperata de Diamantina, in addition to being a spectacle for the eyes and ears, is a source of pride for citizens of Diamantina. It is a unique event because nothing compares to the feeling of watching the presentation tasting a good wine, or, if you prefer, the famous cachaça from the North of Minas Gerais." - https://www.pousadadogarimpo.com.br/noticias-do-blog/temporadas-vesperata-diamantina/

Inside Margravial Opera House Bayreuth with Backstage Access - Unesco World Heritage - Germany

"A masterpiece of Baroque theatre architecture, built between 1745 and 1750, the Opera House is the only entirely preserved example of its type where an audience of 500 can experience Baroque court opera culture and acoustics authentically, as its auditorium retains its original materials, i.e. wood and canvas. Commissioned by Margravine Wilhelmine, wife of Frederick, Margrave of Brandenburg–Bayreuth, it was designed by the renowned theatre architect Giuseppe Galli Bibiena. As a court opera house in a public space, it foreshadowed the large public theatres of the 19th century. The highly decorated theatre’s tiered loge structure of wood with illusionistic painted canvas represents the ephemeral ceremonial architectural tradition that was employed in pageants and celebrations for princely self-representation. Outstanding Universal Value Brief synthesis The 18th century Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth is a masterwork of Baroque theatre architecture, commissioned by Margravine Wilhelmine of Brandenburg as a venue for opera seria over which the princely couple ceremonially presided. The bell-shaped auditorium of tiered loges built of wood and lined with decoratively painted canvas was designed by the then leading European theatre architect Giuseppe Galli Bibiena. The sandstone façade designed by court architect Joseph Saint Pierre provides a focal point within the urban public space that was particularly planned for the building. As an independent court opera house rather than part of a palace complex, it marks a key point in opera house design, foreshadowing the large public theatres of the 19th century. Today it survives as the only entirely preserved example of court opera house architecture where Baroque court opera culture and acoustics can be authentically experienced. The attributes carrying Outstanding Universal Value are its location in the original 18th century public urban space; the 18th century Baroque façade; the original 18th century roof structure spanning 25 metres; the internal layout and design of the ceremonial foyer, tiered loge theatre and stage area including all existing original materials and decoration. Criterion (i): The Margravial Opera House is a masterwork of Baroque court theatre architecture by Giuseppe Galli Bibiena in terms of its tiered loge form and acoustic, decorative and iconological properties. Criterion (iv): The Margravial Opera House is an outstanding example of a Baroque court theatre. It marks a specific point in the development of opera houses, being a court opera house located not within a palace but as an urban element in the public space, foreshadowing the great public opera houses of the 19th century. Integrity The elements necessary to express outstanding universal value are included within the property as one sole building and are intact and in good condition. No adverse effects are expected to occur and an overall conservation and restoration plan has been approved by the State Party. Authenticity Most of the building and the decorative programme of the loge theatre remain unchanged. Adaptations were due to regulations for fire safety in public buildings and requirements in line with the contemporary use of theatres. The highly unified Baroque work can still be appreciated. The survival of the interior materials of wood and canvas enable the opera house’s original acoustic quality to still be appreciated, and testifies to the authenticity of the property as an 18th century opera house. Protection and management requirements The property is protected at State level by the Bavarian Law for the Protection and Preservation of Monuments (1973, 2007). It is also protected by inclusion on the List of Monuments of Bayreuth under the Bayreuth City Civic Statutes and Ordinances. The buffer zone has been agreed and established with local authorities and its historic buildings are included in the Bayreuth Monuments List. The Management authority is the Bavarian Palaces Department. Implementation of the Management Plan is guaranteed by a steering group including the Bavarian Palaces Department; the City of Bayreuth; the Upper Franconia regional government; the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and Arts; the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Historic Buildings, and ICOMOS Germany. As a result of research, experience and consultations the impact of visitors and events has been regulated by the Bavarian Department of Palaces. Effective measures have been established to control the number of visitors and frequency of events which will be exclusively limited to the summer period after the restoration program is concluded.
