"Traditional Samba Circle in Glória Declared Cultural Heritage of Rio
The 'Gloriosa Roda de Samba' has taken place every 3rd Sunday of the month since 2005
The 'Gloriosa Roda de Samba'—as the gathering of musicians that has been taking place for nearly 20 years, every 3rd Sunday of the month in Glória (in central Rio), is popularly known—has officially become an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the City of Rio de Janeiro.
The initiative, enacted this Monday (April 29) and authored by City Councilors Luciana Boiteux (PSOL), Marcio Santos (PV), and Monica Benicio (PSOL), seeks to honor and celebrate the history revolving around the neighborhood and the samba circle itself. The circle began in 2005 as a gathering of a group of friends and eventually came to be visited monthly by renowned samba masters.

It is an initiative of the *Arteiros da Glória* Carnival Bloc, the musician PAULÃO 7 CORDAS, and the *Grupo de Samba da Mesa*. Upholding the traditions of days gone by, the Gloriosa Samba Circle features sambas by Candeia, Paulinho da Viola, Nelson Cavaquinho, Martinho da Vila, Zeca Pagodinho, Almir Guineto, Geraldo Pereira, Noel Rosa, among others.
